Since I was young, I read a lot about WW II. And when in the late nineties, we were able to watch "Saving Private Ryan", everything makes much more sense. You can read about the horror of war, but "Saving Private Ryan" is a whole experience.
The sound, the effects, and the photography of the movie, makes the spectator to feel a new experience in movie theather, that nobody saw before.
Besides it was and award winning movie, allows younger generations like X, Y and Z; realize how the war was. So you don´t need to be a baby boomer to realize what happen on those dark years of our modern history.
